Operacion Puerto

Holy shit - Ullrich, Basso, Mancebo, Beloki, Sevilla and dozens of other non-contender riders have been dropped from their teams and are out of the tour. Is this the wake-up call that pro cycling needs to clean up its game? Will this the the most boring tour or the most fascinating tour in decades?

facinating for sure. there is still plenty of high-end talent left and it should be an attack fest as I think there are a dozen legitmate yellow jersey contenders now that Basso is gone...

Oh yeah but this sucks and I have a sick feeling in my stomach about the whole thing...

Wow! (And I really mean that - not in some sarcastic "Ooh - more bike news!" kind of way!)

Ed Note: And Spice says that as someone who learned most of these names and knows all about the sport, thanks to a crash course two summers ago!

It's particularly interesting in light of the way in which cycling is built around team leaders - if the leader is cut, is the whole team cut? Do they have a substitute leader?
